south america 2011

On April 6. Vinc and me started our 4 month long, exciting travel through south america. Everything was kind of planned and in the last seconds we got all the vaccinations and paper work organised.
Our flight went over London, where we had one nice day of sight seeing before we continued to Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. Here we explored the city and had a nice, relaxed start with eating a lot of empanadas, dancing (ok, mostly watching) Tango, seeing local markets and just enjoying the argentinian life style.
After one week we flew south to the so called "end of the world", to Ushuaia. Here the weather was definetly colder and we spent one night in the national park, freezing in our little tent ;o)However hiking was great here and we had an amazing view from C. Guanaco. Afterwards we went north to El Calafate over Rio Gallegos and further to El Chalten where we did some nice hiking tours in the park near Fitz Roy. Unfortunately we saw mostly clouds and the wind was super strong.
When I saw the Perito Moreno, I got a good chill all over my back. This glacier is the most awesome natural and still growing mass of ice I have ever seen.
From El Calafate we took a bus to Puerto Natales where we did a 4 day camping trip in the awesome "Torres del Peine" national park. We hiked with 4 other people from italy, france, new zealand and bolivia and, even though the weather was not always on pour side, we had a super fun time. Now the travel goes on to Santiago...I'll be back with more pictures. Southside Festival 2010

Here we go...Some nice weekend in mid june, where some crazy dudes from germany, italy, canada, austria, india thought they have to fight natures forces by camping in knee deep mud at the Southside Festival in Neuhausen ob Eck.
Tiny car was rented, 7 people stuffed in together, some tents, chairs, backpacks and whatever fit in the last corner and of we went. Here are some muddy pictures in the galery Gallery: Southside

Skitour Rütistein

One nice weekend in march I went spontaniuosly with colleagues and friends on a very nice skitour on the top of the Rütistein at Hoch Ybrig. We started at the gondola station Weglosen. First up a quite steep slope and then along a pathway to Druesberg cabin. After a little break we started the final hike up to the top of Rütistein. The weather was amazing, as you can see on the pictures in the Gallery: Rütistein

Cinque Terre

End of september me and Vinc packed our things and drove off to italy for a few days. We had quite ok weather and a really good time. Besides two amazing MTB Tours we jogged along the Via dell´amore. The views were fantastic, we swan in the sea, were lying at the beach watching the sunset and tried to experience a bit the italian life style despite all the tourists around.

Nora, Milano, Locarno.

In the beginning of march I had an amazing long weekend in the swiss Tessin and Italy. After we visited the castles in Bellinzona we drove over the border to Milano. We stayed in the probably worst room I have ever seen (mouldy, smoky and overall just disgusting...), however we enjoyed the city, climbed on the "Duomo" and got a taste of real italian food. Afterwards we continued to Locarno, which is a beautiful small town where one can really feel the mediterranean influence from italy. We went with our tourskis in direction of the mountain "Gridone" and had an amazing ride down. See some pics in the

Barcelona

Lucky Nora was for the first time in her life in the beautiful city Barcelona. I went there for three whole days and was very impressed by the architecture of Antonio Gaudi and his amazing buildings all over the city. Also the street markeds, selling more or less whole cows in small peaces, the people, their humor and the whole atmsophere in the tiny streets with laundry hanging from every small balcony...it was great. I can only recommend everyone to take a trip there and explore the city. Our first experience of traditional spanish dinner was very special. After somehow useless catalan explanation of the menu, we ordered Paella Arroz Negro, which turned out to be a plate of black rice with seafood. The black colore was due to squid ink use in th receipe. Even though it looked somehow weird, it tasted great. The next evening we met Elvira, a friend of a friend, who took us for a traditional catalan Tapas dinner. She and 4 of her friends were very eager to give us the right impression of their traditional food and we had a great time together.

Bevouacing at Jonsvatnet

To get a little out of town I went on a trip with two friends from the netherlands just outside Trondheim. We biked for 1.5 hours around the Jonsvatnet lake and hiked for 1.5 hours more into the forrest. We stopped at a small lake where we grilled sausages, tried some fishing, went swimming and finally slept under the stars. It was a great trip, even though we were caught by 3 min of rain during the night.

Innerdalen/Trollheimen

End of may I went with 4 friends on a tent tour, 2 hours south from Trondheim in Innerdalen, a valley in the mountains of Trollheimen. We started out friday afternoon and put up a tent camp that evening near a small lake at 400m. From there we started the first tour up a valley (1200m) around a mountain chain. We had amazing weather and saw the most beautiful landscapes. Check out the pictures here: Gallery: Trollheimen However, we had not expected to find so much snow and were therefore not exactly equipped for these conditions. Finally, after 11 h, we arrived back at the tent with wet feet, wet trousers but very happy about the whole trip.
The net day we climbed up to Snøfjellet, where Vera and Erik were able to use their Telemark-skies for the way down. Stefan and me climbed up to a different hill. It was somehow dangerous since one never knew where wholes under the snow were hidden. Vera and Erik even caused quite a big avalanche. In general I can definitly recommend to make a trip to Innerdalen.

Ostern 2008 auf Skitour im Allgäu

This year my easter holidays were a constant up and down. But not because of my mood, don´t worry. I went with Vincent to Oberstdorf where we had rented a little room. From there we made daytrips to several different mountain tops. Vincent had tourskies and I walked up with snowshoes, my snowboard on the back and then boarded down. Some days the weather was just perfect...sun.blue sky and a good track up to th top of the mountain. Other days it did not stop snowing, one could not see more than 10m and the deep snow was just killing the leg muscles on the way up. In total we managed around 5 tours, whereby we only went 3 times all the way to the top. Since there was so much snow, we also had to wear avalanche equippment and read the weatherforecast for the most dangerous hillsides every day. Even though I sometimes had the feeling I reached my boundaries when I was lying exhausted in the deep snow, to worn out to stand up again from falling and not managing to keep the tip of the board from getting under the snow. But over all I really enjoyed the tour and will try again nexxt time with tour skis as well. Here are some of the good-weather pictures in the gallerie:

Finland/Virrat

The last weekend in January 08, I had the final meeting of the "Nordic Summer School" in Virrat/Finland. After the summer course in Copenhagen where I met the other students from iceland, sweden, finland, danmark and norway, I was really looking forward to meet them again for a cool weekend. We had one day where everyone presented their projects. In the evening we really got to know the finish traditions. We were sitting in the sauna, running to the lake for some seconds of ice swimming and danced some traditional finish "jenkka" dance. Ice swimming was really not as bad as I expected but quite good. It total the weekend was just great...for some more pics of me in the ice water look in the galery.

Biathlon Sprint in Beitostølen

Since Vincent is taking part in all kinds of biathlon competitions I got the chance to see all this live in Beitostølen. Due to a booking mistake Vincent, Sindre, another guy from Trondheim and me had a cabin which was designed for 8 people. The weather was incredible good, the whole weekend was very exciting and I even met some of the top biathletes from norway.

With Vincent from Copenhagen to Trondheim

After summer school Vincent picked me up to drive back to Trondheim. We had a week tour, visited some very nice places in Norway like the Briksdals glacier, the Geirangerfjord, we went skiing, drove up the trollstigen, slept in the kangoo car every night and cooked our food on the camping cooker.

Copenhagen

End of august, geeky Nora was in summer school in copenhagen. I had two weeks of lectures about cancer epidemiology together with 5 students from each skandinavian country. The whole group was accomodated in a cosy little hotel and we had a great time and lot´s of fun. Besides my friend Anita started her Masterprogramme in copenhagen in august. Copenhagen is a crazy city and from art, concerts, museums over a gayparade and christiania, the famous part of the city and the Tivoli amusement park there is lot´s to see and do. I even went to a soccer match of the FC København.

For the summer I traveled back to germany with Oli. The trip was quite funny and besides Oli having a disgusting "snus" (norwegian chweing tabac) on his plate on the ferry, we had some good laughs about other tourists, spend some hours in Kiel and Hamburg and shared our train appartment with an incredible slow-talking priest from Bern.

Extremsportveko-Voss

After the trip to Jotunheimen we drove to Bergen where we stayed for 2 days at Phoungs place. He´s one of my former room mates. We were really lucky first of all it was supersunny and second, we went fishing and were incredible lucky ;o) From Bergen the tour went on to Voss where the Extremsportweek was taking place. It was quite amazin gto see all the crazy people doing parachuting, base jumping, paragliding, kayaking, kite surfing...However after 3 days it was enough and we drove back to Trondheim.

Jotunheimen

End of June 2007 I went on a great trip to the national park Jotunheimen with Oliver, Søren and Marion. We hiked for 3 days through the rough nature but had to end the trip earlier than planned due to bad weather.

Girlstrip on the Hurtigruten

In June 2007 I went on a cool trip with Marion and Meike. We took the Hurtigrutenboat from Trondheim to Ålesund. The boattrip itself was so boring that we had to make up some fun stuff. With climbing competitions, acrobatics and balancing on ship-equippment we were definelty an attraction for the other tourists (90% germans over 70 years).
We were travelling without a tent, but only sleeping bags and isomats and spend our nights under the stars.

Tiomila in sweden 2007

Have you ever heard of "orienteering"? Well I never had before I came to norway. But its great. You run with your map, a compass and hopefully good sense for orienation into the woods and try to find the post which are marked on the map as soon as possible. To find all of them might take hours :o)
In april 2007 I was with NTNUI and some friends in Sveden to take part in the orientation competition "Tiomila 2007" and actually managed to find all my posts :o)

Northcap

In 2006 I planned a tour to the northcap which was not really the best idea. We drove though norway, sweden, finland and back into norway to Kirkenes, which is a small town near the russian border.
On the way we had a little too close contact with a group of reindeers. We were very lucky that nothing happened to us, but two reindeers died and our car was kind of damaged. With a fancy rental car we continued and spent x-mas in Tokes parents summer cabin. Too bad that it was wintertime, because there was no running water. We managed quite well though and made fire every day and had a very relaxing time over all.

There are of course some typical norwegian things like moose, the fjords, the statoil gas station and among all that the brand "Nora" which produces a whole bunch of different things and can be found in almost every supermarket.

Oslo

In november 2005 I drove with 3 friends the first time to Oslo and of course we had to visit all of the tourist attractions there. From Holmenkollen over the Vigelandspark, the Fram museum, Kon-Tiki, the viking ship museum and the open air folkemuseum.

My first trip to norway is alread quite a while ago. And to post all the pictures would take much to long, therefor I only add a few of them that give an impression of where I was, who I met and what has happened so far. I´ll try to keep this blog as updated as possible, but I´ll see how that goes ;o) if it is like writing a diary...then goodbye, I used to quit writing that ater 2 days ;o)
